Students in 5th grade classes at Veterans Memorial Elementary School participated in a "Community Board" highlighting civic action “Do something for someone else in honor of MLK Jr." In Ms. Activities included class pledges, acts of kindness, listening to MLK Jr.’s famous speech, reading Achieve 3000 articles and writing about reading. Use drawing and Scaffold Writing to record a plan, growing in knowledge about writing and printĭevelop emergent literacy skills and phonemic awareness using the Tools Sound Map to find sounds and letters to represent words in a messageĮlementary students around the district participated in a variety of activities to celebrate the life of Martin Luther King Jr and his contributions to society. Use oral language and written speech as a tool for remembering The Play Planning process’s overall purpose is to:ĭevelop higher-level play skills by identifying roles, actions, and scenarios As children’s abilities develop, teachers add beginning, ending and middle sounds to the lines with the children. In Scaffolding Writing, lines are used to represent words. The teacher scaffolds both the Play Planning process and children’s literacy development as they grow in their ability to draw and write their message. During Play Planning, children choose the center they will play in, make a verbal plan, and then represent their message by writing or drawing. A major part of the Tools of the Mind Curriculum is Play Planning.
